Daicel's synthetic resins operations
make full use of organic and macromolecule synthesis and the plastic
processing technologies that it has developed over the years to
supply unique products to a wide array of industrial sectors.
Daicel supplies engineering plastics - including Poly Butylene
Terephthalate (PBT), PolyPhenylene Sulfide (PPS), Liquid Crystal
Polymers (LCP), and especially Polyacetal (POM), which performs
comparably to metal in term of strength, and heat and abrasion
resistance - primarily to markets in the Asia-Pacific region for
use in a wide range of fields, including precision instruments,
construction materials, and household consumer goods, mainly in
the electronics and automobile industries.
Having acquired the Cyclic Olefine Copolymer (COC) business from
Ticona in January 2006, the Daicel Group has begun development
in the market with its main target focusing on optical parts.
Daicel's compound resin business, centering on Acrylonitrile-Styrene
(SAN) resins and Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) resins,
concentrates on high-performance products such as engineering
plastics and polymer alloys. Through close coordination among
its four bases in Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore, Daicel
responds to the needs of users expanding their overseas manufacturing,
and users upgrading their operations.
Additionally, Daicel is working to further expand the wide base
of its synthetic resins business by responding to the diverse
needs of its users with sheets, containers, and packaging products
based on polystyrene resin; highly moisture resistant and gas
impermeable packaging films; and agricultural materials
made of foamed plastics. |

[Polyacetal]
Polyacetal plays an active part in machinery components in the
form of gears, screws, and roller bearings. It is widely used
in AV and OA equipment, home electrical appliances, automotive
parts, precision machinery components, toys, and writing materials.

[Cyclic Olefine Copolymer
(COC)]
Received high market acclaim as a resin that includes optical
qualities equal to PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate, an acrylic resin)
and higher levels of thermal-resistance than PC (polycarbonate
resin), as well as better levels of dimensional stability than
PMMA and PC, and it shows enormous potential for use not only
with optical parts, but also in a wide range of industrial applications
such as medical equipment.

[PA / ABS Resin]
Combining the merits of two different resins produces superior
strength, impact resistance, and workability. Polymer alloys are
used in such goods as the outer coverings of portable digital
electronics, and auto parts such as cowls for motorcycles. They
are also developed for use as conductive and electromagnetic wave
shields.

[Food Trays]
Daicel offers a wide choice of grades of food trays with varying
combinations of rigidity, and impact, cold shock and oil resistance.
They have already been adopted for use with rice confectionery
and biscuits, as well as agricultural, chilled, and frozen foods.

[Functional Films]
Daicel offers custom films processed using our technique for coating
films with a thin layer of resin, producing barrier films with
ultra moisture impermeability and barrier properties for use in
snack and other food packaging. Daicel responds to all the integral
needs of our customers in the fabrication of packaging films.
