Organic Chemicals
Daicel's organic chemical operations focus on two distinct areas: general use organic chemicals, and highly specific, small lot production fine chemicals. While the general-use products pursue more effective production technology, the fine chemical divisions are developing products specifically tailored to individual users. Acetic acid manufactured by the methanol method (which pioneered C1 chemistry) and other organic acids, esters, alcohols, and ketons, is widely used as a raw material in synthetic fibers, paints, and cosmetics. Fine chemical products manufactured through amination, chlorination, or ketene technologies are broadly applied in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, cosmetics, pigments, foods, and others. Daicel also manufactures (poly) caprolactone and epoxy compounds through oxidation by peracetic acid. Their applications include automobile paint, photogravure ink, urethane, electrical insulation varnish, and food packaging. Additionally, Daicel manufactures and develops bulk actives and intermediates for pharmaceuticals utilizing chromatographic separation and fine organic synthesis technologies, biochemistry, and peptide under the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Hybrid acrylic emulsion, CEVIAN-A, is used for mortar and slate paint in civil engineering and construction.
[Acetic Acid]
Acetic acid is Daicel's principle product, employed in cellulose acetate, esters, or ketens. In addition, it is widely used for pure terephthalic acid (PTA), which is a raw material in polyester fibers and PET bottles, vinyl acetate, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.

[Acetic Anhydride]
Acetic anhydride is the main raw material of cellulose acetate - an ingredient in photographic film and cigarette filters - and is thus consumed primarily in-house. Recently, though, its uses have expanded to include liquid crystal polymer and urethane elastic fiber.

[Fine Chemicals]
Fine chemicals such as ketene derivatives, monochloroacetic acid, amines and pyridines are applied as raw materials in pharmaceuticals.

[Caprolactone]
Caprolactone and special epoxy resins are utilized as raw materials in automobile paints. They are indispensable in improving the durability and luster of painted surfaces.

[Chiral Resolution Facilities using the SMB Method]
Daicel separates individual optical isomers from racemic bodies. In addition to research applications, Daicel contributes to the production of safer pharmaceutical ingredients through a combination of optical resolution columns with the Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) chromatography method.

[Epoxy Resins / Performance Chemicals]
Epoxy-based products made with alicyclic epoxy resins and functional products made with acid anhydride are used in printed circuit boards. These are just some of the Daicel products being used in the electronic materials sector to support the highly networked information society in unseen ways.
